Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp

"Work Makes Freedom"
This is the prisoner entrance into the camp.
John and Wes are walking in the neutral zone.  At the time, if they were 10 feet or less from the fence, they would have been shot.

While all very interesting, visiting a concentration camp is a truly somber experience.

a few sights from berlin

Brandenburg Gate
Below is a bombed out church that was never rebuilt after the war.  Above displays shrapnel dents from the attacks.

Wes is looking out onto old East Germany from the Dome in Berlin.  John has him sitting on a ledge and I was told not to worry because he was holding onto him with one hand...yikes.

Berlin Zoo

Bundled up in the freezing weather for a nap.  It was kinda wierd looking at the animals without him for awhile!  Luckily he woke up at the shark tank!!

My mother's maiden name in Steinbock, so it was cool to see the Steinbock exhibit at the zoo!

Wes is getting so big and doing and saying so much more everyday!  We love this stage!!  Last week I took him to the library for storytime and arts/crafts.  He did a fine job of listening for about 30 seconds.  Can only go up from there, right??  Then, with mucho assistance, he made a bear.  His favorite part was the glue, he may have even liked the taste of the glue...he kept going back for more!!  After a snack and juice box, we hit the road, and I was so proud of him!!!  He watched the other children and was very sweet!!  Daddy took the bear to work, where it is proudly being exhibited!!  Gotta love our 18 monther!

Introducing...

Here are a few pics of our little girl, Hailey Lauren Kendall.  She is due May 23, but measurements have her arriving May 15.  I know this isn't something to live by, but it is exactly how Wes measured throughout the pregnancy....and he was a month early.  Brother and sister are already bonding, as they had the hiccups at the same time this afternoon; just in time for naps!

Wes is going to have a sister!!!

That's right!  After thinking I would be able to make it through my pregnancy without finding out the sex of the baby, I have failed!!!  John agreed to find out with me yesterday, "UNDER PROTEST".  We are delighted to have a daughter and Wes will make a wonderful big brother!!  When he gets a chance to scan her picture, we'll show you how pretty she already is!!

Christmas Eve With Our Little German Boy

Little Wesley loves Gram's Christmas Tree!!  He especially likes to take the icicles and snowflakes off the tree!  Gram bought lederhosen for him when she came to Germany when he was born!!

Cousin Izzy is just the cutest little girl ever!  She had so much fun opening gifts--what a true girl!  She even tried taking some of Wes' toys, but he was NOT having it!
The little kid table!  What a big boy!!  Brett (5), MeMe (5), Liam (3) and Wes (1.5)!

Shopping!!

We spent the day at a real mall!!  I was in heaven, but was on my best behavior!  Mike and Lori let me pick out some early Christmas gifts, so we headed right to MiMi Maternity!!  Wes had fun sitting on Santa's lap and riding the escalator with Grandpa!  He had even more fun playing in the kid's area, a great addition that every mall should offer!

Bathtime at Gammi and Grandpa's!! uh-oh!!!

Wes had lots of fun taking a bath in the big tub at Gammi and Grandpa's!  He totally lost track of what he was doing and where...

Just kidding!  It is just a log from his new animal set!!  This one is for you, Daddy!

The Blarney Castle and Stone

It was a really cold morning when we reached the Blarney Castle, and we could barely see it from the path.  Luckily, it turned out to be a nice day.  We were so fortunate that we didn't have to deal with crowds and we even parked right next to the entrance!

Kissing the Blarney Stone...Didn't realize what a hike it would be up the castle staircases!  I cramped for days afterward.  My doctor has said no more castles...and send him a post card!!  I'm confused!!  Since we now have the "gift of gab" from kissing the stone, I think maybe we'll have a little chatty baby girl!!!  Who knows!!!

Dublin in a Day......

The Hop-On Hop-Off Bus was a favorite for Wes!!
Wes is tasting the brew that he created below!!  Gotta love the Guiness!!  Or at least he does!

Family shot at The Temple Bar
Just kidding...that's John's beer!
